This season we will be showing in association with The British Fashion Council’s DiscoveryLab in Collaboration with Toni&Guy.

The collection is entitled ‘Tier 2’ and explores the discomforts of lockdown and the pandemic through the comfort of clothing and household items. This is a two part collection with part one consisting of ready to wear and part two (due to launch in September) consisting of accessories and homeware. The film outlines a concept that has been so familiar to us all over the past 2 years plus. It explores a couple living together in lockdown, portraying their emotional journey- the bad and the good of what life has been like inside throughout the lockdown period whilst highlighting the beauty of the new collection and the familiarity/comforts of home.

Almost all of the pieces in this collection are made from a 50% recycled jersey or soft woven fabric to emulate the idea and feeling of comfort. The main two prints in this collection are inspired by domestic items that can be traditionally found in the home, bleach and blankets:

“Our blanket print is a personal design which features the Ajobi emblem, traditional floral wallpaper pattern and the image of a hand crafted wooden ‘Ayo’ Board which was specially carved for my mother in Nigeria many years ago. This is a game that has since become a favoured family pastime. For me it was essential to include things in this collection which are personal to me, my lockdown experience and thing that can be found not just in my home but also in the homes of others.” ~ Abigail Ajobi

As a result of this, the service of each garment has been shaped by the everyday reoccurring scenarios of lockdown with hoodies, jumpers, joggers and other lounge wear items feeling as though they have become essential pieces of our wardrobes. The collection recreates a lounge wear feeling with a more uplifting and stylised aesthetic.

It is important for Abigail Ajobi as a brand and as a designer to be most sustainable, which is why our ‘convertible’ clothing functionality has been carried over from our previous collections. This means many of our pieces can be worn in multiple different ways, from shorts to full length trousers etc.

We are a brand that focuses on sustainability both in our environment and our community, whilst highlighting the importance of social awareness. As with all of our collections, we will be supporting a charity relating to this theme. Part of the profits from this collection will support The Care Workers’ Charity; a charity with the mission to prevent care workers from falling into crisis. supporting our social care heroes with financial grants.
